KT announced on the 17th that it opened the PyeongChang 5G Center in Alpensia Ski Jumping Center for successful provision of 5G trial services in 2018. A variety of 5G network equipment and devices like 5G-SIG standard-compliant base stations and antennas co-developed with global leading vendors are equipped in the center.

KT’s GiGA Wire using copper line at 1Gbps connects the world, moving beyond Europe

Following MWC 2016 in February, KT will present its 1G copper line telecommunication technology (GiGA Wire) jointly developed with Korean manufacturers at the Broadband World Forum (the BBWF), the world’s largest exhibition for wired telecommunication. Held in London, the annual exhibition is expected to be attended by top management of global telecommunication service providers and greatly impact the next-generation broadband network landscape.

Industry leaders launch GiGA Wire Alliance with the goal of promoting worldwide adoption of Gigabit FTTdp/FTTB broadband access solutions powered by the ITU-T G.hn standard. GiGA Wire solutions are based on the open G.hn standard, which enables service provider to use any in-building copper infrastructure (phone lines, UTP cables and coaxial cables) to deliver Gigabit services without the high cost associated with installing new optical fiber.
KT demoed a new indoor 5G repeater

KT announced on the 9th that it, in cooperation with a local SME, successfully conducted a demonstration of a '5G repeater' that can give excellent 5G coverage inside of buildings in a very cost-efficient way.
