Ever more important to keep in mind given recent peak in (pre) 5G activity in industry and the literature. Thanks for sharing in at-a-glance form.

It would be great if the network stacks for access and non access are made open source, like openstack. I believe it will lead to quicker adoption and implementation for 5g based tech

Thank you very much for the post; the graph shows clearly the time lines. This topic is highly relevant in order to understand the realistic schedules for the 5G - which we will see in pre-standardized format pretty soon whilst, e.g., the 3GPP is working on the global 5G candidate for the ITU's evaluation then later.

There is also a short summary of this in http://m.electronicdesign.com/communications/what-s-story-5g

So 5G is anything Above 1Gbps or Evolution of NR or both?

Kevin (FDH Velocitel) via LinkedIn 2017-02-07 12:02:06

I don't think that the "Standards" have yet to be concretely defined. So far just speculation that it would be 1Gbps, but I have also

heard that it could be as low as 100Mbs to qualify as 5G. Does anyone else have anything else on what the exact definition of 5G will

be?

KT, Samsung, LG, NTT should follow business model from Facebook and Open Computing Project to drive the future. Due to all respect, ITU and 3GPP are too slow to adapt market, little communication and spend too much time with politic.

Open Source, open standards and global collaboration are the best way to go.
