Status of Private 5G Deployment by Global Automobile Manufacturers

The introduction of 5G in corporate workplaces offers many advantages (advantages over existing wired Ethernet private networks in terms of wireless connectivity, wider coverage than existing Wi-Fi private networks, support for seamless handover, and low-latency connection support, and higher uplink capacity compared to existing MNO public 5G networks).

However, due to the high equipment costs and technical complexity associated with 5G technology, its adoption has so far been limited to companies with sufficient capital and large-scale facilities. One of the most representative areas is automobile manufacturing plants.

In this One-Shot, we examine the current status of private 5G network deployment by global automobile manufacturers as of July 2025.

Through these cases, the advantages of private 5G are expected to spread to the market, and as deployment and operational costs are reduced through large-scale expansion, the adoption and operation of private 5G within companies are anticipated to expand and accelerate.

The primary drivers for the private 5G deployment were the cost and complexity of wired Ethernet links, as well as a host of issues associated with Wi-Fi, including limitations on the number of connected devices, weak signal penetration in a metal-heavy environment, and unstable handovers when moving between access points along the production line.

Applications: AGV, IoT sensors, Camera, Connected tools, AI

The deployment allows for data-driven decision-making, streamlined operations, and reduced downtime.
