This week at CES, LG Electronics announced the LG G Flex2, the next evolution of the curved smartphone, featuring a sharper display, more-powerful hardware, and software created with a contoured screen in mind.
The G Flex2—a sleeker, more stylish device than its predecessor—features a 400mm to 700mm radius curved profile that brings many benefits: It moves the microphone closer to the mouth for better sound pickup, offers an immersive low-glare viewing experience from any angle, and allows for a comfortable grip that easily slides in your pocket.
This smartphone is the first announcement of a commercial device powered by a Qualcomm ® Snapdragon 810™ processor, runs Android 5.0 (Lollipop), and boasts 2GB of RAM and 32MB of memory (with an option to upgrade via MicroSD to up to 2TB).
The “self-healing” back cover has a protective layer that quickly erases scratches, while the front features a 5.5-inch Full 1080p HD Curved P-OLED 1080-by-1920 pixel (403 ppi) display.
The Snapdragon 810 at the heart of the LG G Flex2 features a 64-bit capable octa-core CPU and fully integrated 3x20MHz Carrier Aggregation support, which allows for faster, more-efficient connectivity.
The Qualcomm® Adreno™ 430 GPU’s superior graphics capabilities prime the device for high-quality multimedia consumption, including console-quality graphics for immersive mobile gaming and management of premium video.
The LG G Flex2 Fast Charge feature is designed to allow its 3,000mAh battery to charge up to 50 percent in under 40 minutes, significantly reducing time plugged into the wall and increasing the ability to multitask on the go.
The 13MP rear-facing camera features OIS+ (Optical Image Stabilization Plus) to reduce blur and Laser Auto Focus to capture photos in low-light. Meanwhile, additional software like the LG created Gesture Shot mode makes taking the perfect selfie on the 2.1MP front-facing camera a breeze.
While the curve allows the phone to stand on its own, a simple hand gesture from up to 1.5 meters away triggers the shutter, so you no longer need to hold the phone or fumble with buttons to snap a photo.
The LG G Flex2 is on display at the LG Electronics booth (Center Hall, Booth 8204) at CES. It is expected to go on sale in Platinum Silver and Flamenco Red in Korea at the end of January, with availability in the US (through AT&T and Sprint) and Europe to follow.♦
