The MSIP, a South Korean government authority, announced the finalized technological standards for Narrowband IoT commercialization on March 31th. KT and LG U+ plan to begin deployment of an NB-IoT network and launch a trial service starting from April, with an aim to launch commercial services in June.

KT, in cooperation with Nokia, showcased some key 3GPP-based NB-IoT technologies on the commercial LTE network for the first time in the world on the 31st. NB-IoT is a LPWA technology using only 200 KHz bandwidth, and a solution designed specifically for small-volume data communication between things.

SK Telecom attended ‘South Korea and EU IoT Partnership Conference’, held in Nice, France on 12th through 14th, and proposed the cooperation between the two regions to develop a LoRa network roaming system. The proposed system will lead to introduction of various services including location tracking service for international baggage, and more.

The Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning (MSIP) of South Korea announced on the 15th that it will issue an administrative notice of a draft proposal on transmit power raise for 900 MHz (917~923.5 MHz), the most used band globally, from the current 10 mW to max 200 mW, to promote new IoT business and services.
