On January 20, KT announced that, targeting all customers, it launched commercial service of “Broadband LTE-A X4”, which is four times faster than the existing LTE, in time for the official launch of Samsung Electronics’ “Galaxy Note 4 S-LTE.
Galaxy Note 4 S-LTE is Samsung Electronics’ flagship model. It is equipped with an S-Pen, a popular feature of the existing Galaxy Note 4, and powerful digital camera quality function.
It is currently the only handset capable of Broadband LTE-A X4 service, which is four times faster than LTE service.
With 100,000 broadband LTE base stations nationwide, the largest number in Korea, KT has built a Broadband LTE-A X4 commercial network in 85 cities throughout the country.
On December 28 of last year, KT introduced the four-times faster LTE for the first time in Korea by opening a Broadband LTE-A X4 Experience Zone and conducting thorough a verification of its service quality by having a team of customers experience the service themselves using its “trial” handsets at the zone.
Then tomorrow on January 21, the company is launching the world‘s first “real commercial Broadband LTE-A X4 service” to be available on Galaxy Note 4 S-LTE “customer” handsets that Samsung Electronics is officially launching.
To Broadband LTE-A X4, Quad LTE technology, also called three-band LTE-A, was applied. Quad LTE technology enables broader utilization of bandwidth by combining 900 MHz and 2.1 GHz frequency bandwidths with the broadband frequency of 1.8 GHz. Basically, it is like broadening a two-lane highway to four lanes for smoother and faster traffic.
With the technology applied, the Broadband LTE-A X4 implements speed of up to 300 Mbps - four times faster than existing LTE download speeds (75 Mbps). In particular, it has an excellent data traffic distribution effect, enabling customers to enjoy fast and stable service even in densely populated urban areas.
