SK Telecom today held a press conference to announce the opening of ‘5G Playground,’ an integrated innovation center for development of 5G technologies and use cases, at its Corporate R&D Center located in Bundang, Korea. Mobile telecommunication industries are predicting that an all-out war will take place with 2.1 GHz bandwidth frequency that is expected to be auctioned in first half of 2016 on the line. While some are arguing that all of 100 MHz need to be auctioned, some are counter-arguing that all of it needs to be reallocated. LG U+ announced on the 16th that it, jointly with Nokia, a global network equipment vendor, conducted a demonstration of deploying 'commercial' base station software over universal IT servers by means of vRAN. The companies also modified the architecture of C-RAN so that key features previously performed in DU can be performed in RRH instead, proving themselves ready for 5G era where ultra-high speed transmission services are required.
