SKT’s CEO Announces Vision to Become AI & Digital Service Company
11/01/2021

SK Telecom (NYSE:SKM, hereinafter referred to as “SKT”) today announced that CEO Ryu Young-sang held a town hall meeting to present the company’s new vision to shape into an “AI & Digital Infrastructure Service Company” that creates new value through customer-oriented technologies and services, and fulfills its social responsibility.

During his speech, CEO Ryu presented three business keywords: Customer, Technology and Service. He stressed that the company should focus on securing the most innovative technologies and create customer-oriented services to maximize customer value and satisfaction.

Ryu also highlighted the importance of sustaining the company’s position as Korea’s No.1 service company that provides seamless and stable connectivity based on strong infrastructure, while contributing to the advancement of the society.

SKT aims to achieve an annual revenue of KRW 22 trillion in 2025 by strengthening its competitiveness in three key business areas, namely Fixed & Wireless Telecommunications, AI Service, and Digital Infrastructure Service.

In Fixed & Wireless Telecommunications, the company will keep expanding its 5G network coverage to enable customers to enjoy stable 5G service anywhere, anytime.

To better respond to the diversifying customer demand in the media market, SKT will strengthen competitiveness in IPTV by creating synergies with SK Broadband and lead new market trends by converging the OTT and home media services. It will also increase its investment in original content, while expanding its partnerships with diverse global players.

SKT will accelerate its growth and innovations through AI Services. It plans to introduce “AI Agent,” an AI-based service that integrates all products and services of SKT and its ICT affiliates. AI Agent will offer differentiated value by offering personalized services that meet each customer’s needs and preferences.

It will make continued efforts to lead the sub_scription-based service market by offering greater customer benefits via expanded “T Universe” product line-up. It also plans to transform its metaverse service “Ifland” into an open platform and provide enhanced user experience through partnerships with companies of diverse industries including game and entertainment.

In the area of Digital Infrastructure Service, SKT will build more data centers in response to the growing demand for data centers, and actively develop opportunities in the global data center market.

The company will also drive growth of its cloud business by fully utilizing its 5G MEC and dedicated line infrastructure, while developing new growth engines based on data services by expanding industrial IoT business targeted at industries like manufacturing, security and finance.

Moreover, SKT will focus on expanding its partnerships and collaboration with major global companies to offer differentiated customer experience and expand its global presence.

SKT will continue to promote its ICT-based ESG management to resolve difficult social problems through ICT services like ‘ESG sub_scription’ and ‘T Deal for Small Business’.

Furthermore, the company will put best efforts to make a positive impact on society and the environment by reducing CO2 emissions through the deployment of solar photovoltaic base stations and development of high-efficiency network equipment, and decreasing the use of plastic through promotion of the Happy Habit project.

“With a sense of mission and responsibility as the leading service company in Korea, we will strive to create social value and contribute to improving the quality of life,” said Ryu Young-sang, CEO of SKT. “Through these efforts, we will evolve into a company admired and respected by its customers."

I don't even know if mobile communication will be relevant in near future After all, at the end of June, Elon Musk announced that Starlink had close to 70,000 active users.

It turns out that in just one month the number of subscribers has increased by 20,000. In my opinion, that's already a lot of users. This is the data just from 12 countries. Soon it will be possible to conduct all conversations and even business over the Internet without the need to use a phone. This will come in handy if you use Phonexa, which makes running your small business easier, because all these metrics are also available online with just a few clicks.
