LG U+ launches “U+ Gaslock”, the Home IoT Service enabling Gas Valve Remote-Control
12/16/2014 | By NETMANIAS (tech@netmanias.com)

Everybody has the experience of worrying about whether or not he/she turned off the gas before leaving home, perhaps even returning to check.

A service has been released to completely relieve such anxiety.

On December 15, LG U+ announced the release of “U+ Gaslock”, an IoT-based, anxiety-relieving service that enables easy checking and turning off of domestic gas valves from anywhere, any time.

Existing smart gas timers were difficult to remotely check and control, and customers had to suffer the inconvenience of either installing the devices on their own or having to rely on help from professional gas companies.

For this reason, LG U+ released U+ Gaslock, which addresses existing products’ weak points by enabling remote control of gas valves, and includes installation and after-sales service by its own service center.

U+ Gaslock is an IoT-based home service connected with Z-wave, a wireless communication solution, enabling a user to check the status of the gas valve from anywhere and at any time with a smartphone.

This service is easy and safe for all family members to use. It includes remote checking/locking, dangerous temperature alarm/automatic locking, timer setting, control of a user’s own home/parents’ home, etc.

Z-wave introduced into U+ Gaslock is a wireless communication solution suitable for various electronic devices and battery-operated sensors in the house.

In addition, it provides Scene Mode, which enables custom service by directly implementing an interlocking scenario among devices to suit the lifestyle of each user.

Recently, LGU+ became the first Asian network operator that joined BOD, a Z-wave Alliance in the wireless home control market with approximately 230 members worldwide.

The most distinctive feature of U+ Gaslock is that it features a home IoT-based control system, which enables a user to use their smartphone to remotely check the valve status in the house, and, if the valve is open, to easily close it using the valve control application.

If the temperature around the gas valve increases, the fire-detection alert function sends an warning message via SMS, preventing any potential outbreak of fire within the house.

If the temperature reaches 50℃ or 55℃, an SMS is sent along with an alarm sound, and if 65℃, the valve is automatically closed along with an alert .

This is the function reflecting the experience of customers who have ever worried because of gas.

In addition to this, the timer-setting function allows the user to go out without fear of potential fire due to leaking gas.

The digital timer enables anyone to easily set the exact time of use, from a minimum of 2 minutes to a maximum of 10 hours.

The initial registration can be done by logging in with a U+One ID within the application and then through a home giga Wi-Fi connection within the house.

During activation, an installation engineer helps with registration of Gaslock. The Gaslock application can be downloaded from the Google Playstore or U+ Store.
